Ponds For Kids Program

Through the generosity of Create-A-Scape landscaping and AquaScapes, Christ the King School was selected to participate in this year's Ponds For Kids Program. Ponds For Kids is sponsored by the North American Water Garden Society (NAWGS), a non-profit organization of pond lovers dedicated to the enjoyment, education, promotion, and protection of the water garden hobby.

On April 22nd, Earth Day, Create-A-Scape Landscaping installed a pond in the garden to the right of the school. This garden was originally the Msgr. McIntyre Memorial Garden and it has been our hope to refurbish this area. Being selected as part of this program is a wonderful opportunity and a great way to start to bring the garden back to life.

The Ponds For Kids Program provided lesson plans for each grade that day and with the help of the 8th grade students as "guest" teachers, each class was able to participate in Earth Day discussions and art/craft projects.  The entire school participated in the construction of the pond from start to finish all in one day.  On April 22nd, Earth Day 2008, the school started at 8:20am with a prayer service and then contruction started at 8:30am.  Each grade came down to the pond construction site and added their contribution to the building of the pond.  Educational Earth Day and Pond discussions were provided for each class before and after they participated in the building of the pond by the wonderful staff of Create-A-Scape.  To watch the one-day pond construction from start to finish was truly "inspirational" and you can experience this magical day by clicking on the link below.
