1st Time's A Charm For CKRS Math Award
Wednesday, November 28,2007
Our school, Christ the King was chosen to participate in the Second Annual Holy Cross High School Mathematics Competition. It was held on Wednesday, November 28th at Holy Cross High School in Delran. It was Christ the King’s first time to compete at this math competition. Two of our great math teachers, Mrs. Antonelli-Scanlan and Mrs. Dunn, attended the competition and watched our seventh and eighth graders disclose their fantastic math skills. The eighth graders who participated were: Marie-Elena C., Elizabeth M., Stephanie S., and Michael Z. The seventh graders who participated were: Anthony D., Douglas G., Lucia G., and Courtney M.
Many public and private schools from our area also participated in this competition. Initially, everyone had to take a test based on their math skills. The students who scored the highest on this test then moved on to a round where they would compete with each other for the grand prize, which were either cash prizes or three Holy Cross High School scholarships. Thereafter, the teams took part in the group competition. We had only thirty minutes to answer eight questions cooperatively with our team.
After completing the questions, we were given dinner and a snack. After dinner there was a Jeopardy Round for the teams that answered the highest number of questions correctly. We did very well and scored five questions correct out of eight total. The highest any team scored was six out of eight. Christ the King did a great job and should be very proud of the students that participated. We would like to thank our talent teachers for preparing us. We feel truly blessed to have them!
